Question: Does it matter what kind a bird feeder you use (wood or plastic)? Will it effect how many birds come?
Hypothesis: I think that more birds will come to the wooden bird feeder. I think that the birds will recognize the wood as a more natural thing and that will be a more appealing thing to the birds opposed to the plastic.
Independent Variable:
What of bird feeder do the birds prefer? Wood or Plastic?
Dependent Variable:
My Dependent Variable is how much bird seed gets eaten.
Control Variable:
My Control Variables are the location of where the the bird feeders were.
Materials
Plastic Bird Feeder
Wood Bird Feeder
Bird Seed
Measuring cup
Bowl
Can with bird seed
Procedure
Set out two bird feeders in the back of my house.
Fill the two feeders with four cups of the same kind of bird food.
At the end of the day, measure how much of the bird food is gone by putting it in a measuring cup.
Continue checking the bird feeder at the same time each day.
Repeat
Results: Day One: Plastic=1/4
Wood=3/8
So far my Hypothesis is correct. More birds preferred the wooden bird feeder vs. the plastic.
Day Two: Plastic=1/2
Wood=3/4
More food was eaten, and my Hypothesis is still persistent
Day Tree: Plastic= 2 1/8
Wood= 2 3/8
On day three it rained, so I think that it is interesting that the birds ate a great deal more on a rainy day.
Day Four: Plastic=2 1/4
Wood=2 2/4
On day four it did not rain and still the most food was eaten out of all the days.

Graph
This graph shows the comparisons of the amount of food eaten on different days. The amount of food eaten on days three and four show a large increase compared to days one and two.
Conclusion: My hypothesis was correct.The amount of birdseed eaten from the wooden bird feeder is constantly showing that it was more popular then the plastic.The Birds ate more birdseed out of the wooden bird feeder. I noticed that I got results everyday but on days three and four the amount of bird food eaten increased a lot, compared to days one and two. Even though days three and four were more rainy and cloudy, I think that more food got eaten because by then more of the birds realized there was a feeder there. I didn’t think that birds came out on days with bad weather, but I also think that what might have happened was that the bird were colder and needed the food to keep them warm.
